WE NEED YOU! Opportunities to serve in open KASL council positions
Are you a school librarian who values collaboration opportunities with other library professionals? Have you been participating in the listserv and are interested in becoming more involved in KASL? We are looking for YOU! We are searching for members to serve in the following capacities:
Kansas Library Association (KLA) Council Representative This person would attend KLA Council meetings and act as a representative of KASL to that group. The representative would also be closely involved in planning the conference each fall. This would be a two year term that could be extended, and the person would be appointed to the position by the Executive Council.
Intellectual Freedom Committee Officer This person would work as a member of KLA's Intellectual Freedom (IF) Committee, helping to advocate for intellectual freedom in libraries across the state. This person would attend the KLA IF Committee meetings and serve as a liaison and support to KASL Council. This would be a two year term that could be extended, and the person would be appointed to the position by the Executive Council.
Treasurer This person would manage the budget and funds of KASL. This is a two year term that could be extended up to six total years. Amanda Harrison has been serving as our treasurer, and her 3rd term is up this spring. We will need someone to take her place beginning this fall. This person is elected by KASL membership.
2nd Vice-President. This person would be a general part of KASL Council this next school year in order to learn about KASL's functions, in preparation to ultimately serve as President. This person would serve as 2nd VP in 2025-26, 1st VP in 2026-27 working with Corissa Uphoff who will be President that year, President in 2027-28, and then Past-President in 2028-29 for a total of a four year term. This person is elected by KASL membership.
How can YOU help KASL be an organization that supports and helps school librarians in Kansas? We are all better together! Please contact Karen Wilson, President, or Rachel Yoder, Past President with questions or to express your interest in any of these roles.
The KASL RedBubble webstore is open to help the organization fundraise specifically for awards/scholarships, for example, providing funds to help send KASL members to the KLA/KASL conference or Summer Institute.
To become a member of KASL complete the application for membership on the KLA website and choose the Kansas Association of School Librarians as your section. Questions? Contact [email protected]
