KASL Founders Scholarship The KASL Founders Scholarship is intended to lead to a master’s degree (or certification) in library education. The scholarship is presented in the spring to be used by a student in a Kansas college or university. The amount given for the fall semester is $750.00. The recipient of the scholarship will be given a free KASL student membership for that school year. Selection criteria includes:
The applicant must have fulfilled admission requirements of the school of her/his choice.
The applicant must have an interest in school librarianship, be in good health, and be a resident of Kansas.
The scholarship is given gratis, providing that the recipient, upon graduation, serves at least two years in a Kansas school library media center.
The recipient will maintain membership within KASL through the two-year period for purpose of verifying employment.
The application period for this award is January-February each year.
Ruth Garver Gagliardo School Library Scholarship The Ruth Garver Gagliardo School Library Scholarship is intended to improve the preparation of Kansas school librarians. The scholarship is presented once per year to earn graduate level credit hours in an approved Kansas college or university. The amount given annually is up to $500.00. Selection criteria includes:
The applicant must have fulfilled admission requirements of the school of her/his choice.
The applicant must have an interest in school librarianship, be in good health, and be a resident of Kansas.
The scholarship is given gratis, providing that the recipient, upon graduation, serves at least two years in a Kansas school library media center.
The recipient will maintain membership within KASL through the two-year period for purpose of verifying employment.
The application period for this award is January-February each year.
AASL National Conference Award This award enables a Kansas school library media specialist to attend the biennial American Association of School Librarians National Conference. Selection criteria is based on the following:
AASL and KASL membership.
At least two years of experience as a school library media specialist.
Currently employed as a school library media specialist.
No previous attendance at an AASL National Conference.
Ability to be gone from your present position for three days.
Past KASL officers (1st Vice-President, President, or Past-President are not eligible for this award.
This award is offered early in the year each time to the biennial AASL conference is held.
KASL Vision Award Recognizes individuals in or out of the profession who have contributed to the vision of Kansas school library media centers.
School Librarian of the Year Recognizes an individual working in a school district of the library media profession who has developed an outstanding library media program for his/her district, and has made an outstanding contribution to school librarianship and school library media development in Kansas.
